What is the last mile in international logistics and how can final delivery be improved?
The last mile in international logistics refers to the final stage once the cargo has arrived at the port, airport or destination country (land), customs clearance has been completed and the shipment to the importer/consignee is being managed.
This step can be affected by traffic at the destination, unloading schedules and restrictions on certain types of vehicles in certain areas.
To ensure that the goods are delivered on time and at the right time, the recipient will be contacted to confirm the delivery address, reference number (if available), contact person, telephone number, schedule (if it is a groupage shipment) and time (if it is a dedicated service).
The transport order will be sent to the company that owns the lorries that will make the delivery, indicating the place of loading, place of unloading, reference, schedule, date, contact person and telephone number.
The company will confirm the service and, once delivered, will provide the POD or proof of delivery in which the end customer has received the goods and has signed and stamped the document.
This is the last step in the process for any import or shipment.
If it is an import or cross trade, our agent at the destination will inform us once the delivery has been made so that we can inform our customer.
Tracking our shipments allows customers who have agreed to receive these notifications to obtain updated status information on their export/import or cross-trade shipments that we are managing.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any questions regarding DAP (Delivery at Place) or DDP (Delivery Duty Paid) shipments.
We offer door-to-door service.
Kind regards.
