REACH on imports into Spain

(Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

When importing chemical products either within or outside the EU, a REACH certificate must be obtained in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006.

This certificate is obtained to protect human health and the environment from the risks posed by chemical substances, while allowing the free movement of substances within the EU.

It applies to all companies that manufacture chemicals in the EU, import substances or mixtures or articles from outside the European Economic Area, or use chemicals in their industrial processes.

The importer is responsible for complying with the requirements of REACH.

  1. REGISTRATION. Companies must register with the ECHA any substances they manufacture or import in quantities of 1 tonne or less per year.
  2. EVALUATION. The authorities evaluate the dossiers and, in some cases, the substances.
  3. Authorisation. Some hazardous substances may only be used with specific authorisation.
  4. Restriction. Certain uses of hazardous substances are prohibited or restricted.
