Documentation for maritime shipments:
- A BL (Bill of Lading) must be issued. This is a maritime transport contract that specifies the conditions under which the goods have been received for transport by ship. It also serves to identify those involved and the goods being transported.
- The BL can be an MBL (Master Bill of Lading), which shows whether freight forwarders are involved or whether the exporter and importer are direct, and is issued by the shipping company. If it is an HBL (House Bill of Lading), the actual exporter and importer will appear and it will be issued by a freight forwarding company.
- The BL can be Express (a PDF sent by email is sufficient to clear the goods and deliver them) or Original (three originals and two to three copies are printed, depending on the need, and the goods can be cleared and then delivered upon delivery of the documents).
- A commercial invoice, packing list, and dispatch authorization will be required in order to issue shipping and dispatch instructions.
- Dispatches are made upon entry of the goods into the terminal at the port of departure.
