Import and Export FAQs | WOCI

Frequently asked questions related to our sector
What documentation is required to export or import to Spain?
In import and export companies, the documentation we use is the invoice, the packing list, and the shipping authorization.
International agent network
Direct contact with most of the world's ports thanks to the SFN and C5C international agent networks ( SFN  and C5C), of which WOC Ibérica has been an active member for more than six years.

Their support in all the shipments we make ensures that the cargo is secure and monitored at all times.

The experience and reliability of both networks is backed by the number of international agents that continues to grow year after year.
Documents required for transporting goods by sea
Documentation for maritime shipments:

  • A BL (Bill of Lading) must be issued. This is a maritime transport contract that specifies the conditions under which the goods have been received for transport by ship. It also serves to identify those involved and the goods being transported.
  • The BL can be an MBL (Master Bill of Lading), which shows whether freight forwarders are involved or whether the exporter and importer are direct, and is issued by the shipping company. If it is an HBL (House Bill of Lading), the actual exporter and importer will appear and it will be issued by a freight forwarding company.
  • The BL can be Express (a PDF sent by email is sufficient to clear the goods and deliver them) or Original (three originals and two to three copies are printed, depending on the need, and the goods can be cleared and then delivered upon delivery of the documents).
  • A commercial invoice, packing list, and dispatch authorization will be required in order to issue shipping and dispatch instructions.
  • Dispatches are made upon entry of the goods into the terminal at the port of departure.
Advantages of international maritime transport
The main advantages of maritime transport are:
  • Low costs: large volumes of goods at competitive prices
  • Few restrictions: you can ship any product anywhere in the world, even dangerous goods.
  • More environmentally friendly: shipping large quantities of goods in one go significantly reduces the environmental impact.

Can goods be stored before being exported or once imported?
Yes, there are usually a few days of free storage of goods at the port or warehouse, which must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
What are the different Incoterms to consider in logistics operations?
The different Incoterms are CFR, CIF, EXW, FCA, DAP, and DDP, which are among the most common in the import and export of goods. If you want to know what Incoterms are, you can find more details in our blog post or contact us.
What percentage of tariffs and taxes must be paid on imported goods?
It works according to the tariff heading, origin, destination, and value of the goods. Taking these factors into account, a percentage will be applied to the importation of goods.
Can containers and cargo be shipped at controlled temperatures?
Yes, it is possible for sea, land, and air shipments. For full container shipments by sea, there is no sea groupage for all destinations. And for land shipments of goods throughout Europe, as well as air shipments to anywhere in the world.
When is container transport and land freight used?
The shipment and transport of containers by road and other goods is particularly common when transport is carried out within the EU.
When is maritime groupage used for shipping goods?
It is used when the shipment is less than approximately 10 pallets. That is, for smaller export or import shipments.
What types of containers can be shipped?
When it comes to the types of containers we can ship, we offer 20dry, 40dry, 40hc, 20 reefer, 40 reefer, 20 ot, 40 ot, 20 fr, 40 fr, among others.
When is sea freight used?
Shipping goods by sea is preferable when time is not a factor and the volume of cargo is greater. A clear example of this is shipping containers by sea.
When is air freight used?
Air freight services usually have one clear advantage: shipping time. Therefore, they are widely used when transit time is a factor to consider.
