Documentation and requirements for importing into Spain: complete step-by-step guide
Before importing, you must take the following into account.
.- If you are importing from outside the EU, you need an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) number to operate with Customs.
.- You must have a tariff classification (TARIC code). Each product has its own code, which determines the applicable tariffs.
.- Special licenses or permits. Some products such as food, chemicals, and sanitary products require this documentation.
.- You may need CE conformity marking.
The documentation required for Customs
.- The Single Administrative Document (SAD) is the standard Customs document where you indicate the importer, exporter, and description of the goods.
Commercial invoice. This is essential to justify the value of the goods. It must indicate the price, quantity, Incoterm, and currency.
Packing list. This indicates how the goods are packaged, the packages, and the dimensions.
Transport document. If by sea, the BL; if by land, the Consignment Note (CMR); and if by air, the Air Waybill (AWB).
Certificate of origin. Especially for goods from outside the EU to determine possible tariffs.
Customs procedure.
- Advance declaration (ENS). The EU requires an Entry Summary Declaration (ENS) before the arrival of the goods.
.- With the new ICS2, operators must submit the declaration.
.- Customs will assign a channel (green, orange, or red) based on risk and documentation. If everything is correct, it will be green.
.- Calculation of import duties plus VAT to be paid.
